ok i'll admit i'm all over the place right now, i didn't do songs for sunday because instead I went to the Dirty Projectors at the bluebird last night... so let this be an alternative to that,

I have to say this band was crazy. They had some amazing moments- mostly when one of the girls were singing. Dave Longstreth (the lead singer) was too much for me! They did do 2 accoustic songs which were amazing! The electric stuff all started to sound the same and the details of every song were so over the top. so there you have it- I like their song two doves, and stillness on the move, and I can appreciate how out of the box they are... but it was an intense show and so out there that i'm not sure i would go and see them again. I take that back, if Dave would stop singing and turn his electric guitar down a notch or two I would return to see them again. ha ha!

Today is day 2 of not working for somebody else. Today I worked for myself, woo hoo. And yes it's quite strange when you don't go to an office and sit in a dark hole anymore. Amazing.

ok, and i don't recommend this show it can be vulgar, but i watch it anyway. this clip cuts out a lot of the vulgar parts of this episode. If you don't care about that then i'd watch the entire episode because it is so funny, I couldn't stop laughing.

today it is snowing. i left my house for 1 minute to get something out of my car. oh yes the only thing i'm missing is a fire place!

yes this is how it goes.

last night someone asked me if the stories i post on this blog are true. OF COURSE THEY ARE!!! this is the truth, blueberry muffins fall from the sky, cops stop me on the street cause they think i'm going to jump off bridges and yes people at starbucks have thrown breakfast items at my head. All of these stories are completely true.

The strangest things happen to me, that is partly why i started this blog. Beyond just strange things happening, i seem to get yelled at more than the average joe. Probably at least 3 times a week. I was yelled at today in fact. Here's the story....

I was driving, minding my own business. I'm trying to cross the street, due to parked cars I had to inch up in order to see around them. There just happens to be this biker-who i can't see because it's completely pitch black out. So he get's upset that i inched forward (i wasn't close to hitting him, but clearly i didn't see him). he starts yelling at me and of course i'm shocked so my slow reaction of flipping him off came too late- he didn't see my finger. So keep in mind I've been driving for an hour in traffic at this point (needless to say i have road rage). so I honk at him so i can get some of this rage out. i proceed to drive trying to let it go when all of a sudden someone is pounding on my window and TRYING to get into my car. This guy scared the crap out of me!!!! i thought he was going to STRANGLE ME! AHH so i try to drive away and he follows and he's still yelling craziness. so I proceed to raise my voice "i didn't see you" "i wasn't intentionally trying to run you over, cause if i was i would have done that by now!" lol ok I didn't say that end bit, but I thought it.

well eventually i lost him

here's my take on this- NO ONE INTENTIONALLY TRIES TO HIT PEOPLE WHEN THEY ARE DRIVING, THAT'S A FACT, SO DON'T YELL AT ME FOR NOT SEEING YOU WHEN YOU ARE RIDING YOUR BIKE WITHOUT REFLECTORS IN THE PITCH BLACK.

ARG.
ok i may still have road rage. don't drive near me. ha ha.

hello! thanks to everyone who came on saturday night. we had a blast playing walk the line. well the new cd is being mastered this week... so excited for the completion of this project! well here's what i'm doing today...

so summer is over.

and what else... these are the bad movies i saw this week: the informant-got so bored i walked out, Love Happens-well i expected this to be bad, the september issue- yikes just another way to market someone's agenda.

Honestly, i'm getting so tired of tricky marketing schemes. I've had a few people in the last two days come up to me saying they want to go to the "get motivated" conference here in denver. I look at them and I've said, why would you want to go to a conference that is a giant marketing scheme for the republican party? seems strange to me. They respond without even realizing that all of the speakers at this thing are republicans. yikes. bored. tired of this same 'trick'. i have news for you laura bush, i'm not motivated. and elway- really? come on. FOO ME ONCE!
lol. actually i wouldn't mind hearing these speakers, it's more about how they marketed this event to me. ahhhh. need a break from salesmen.

On a completely different note, I've had this strange desire to move to nyc today. Not really a city i've ever wanted to move to. maybe it's the anonymous feeling you can have in such a large city... and also maybe it's the rain we are having lately.

so it rained a bit too much yesterday, last time i tried to bring an umbrella into red rocks they wouldn't let me so i didn't bring one.

we ended up using this... ha ha ha..



I have to say I think monolith was better last year, as far as bands go. But I did enjoy myself... I think cotton jones was one of my favorites. other than that M.ward was there, but he had a bunch of studio musicians with him, which I always think is kind of cheesy (not that anyone else would notice). Edward Sharpe and the magnetic zeros put on a hilarious performance, definitely got a kick out of their personalities. They were one of the better shows of the day. I didn't get to see the indoor bands because everyone was swarming down there to get out of the rain. But the yeah yeah yeah's definitely put on a memorable show. Go karen o!

i can't stop thinking about the phrase stuck in my head, reapeating itself over and over again is "care more". when you have someone look you in the eye and protest that you would "care more" it's hard to forget. tonight was another moment where i was told in many more words to care more. I was astounded. I'm about to go crazy with all the different people telling me the same thing.

this blog is not about "caring more" about other people but more about what you are doing. Just to make things clear, ha ha.

I know most of you have seen 500 days of summer. If you haven't then good for you!!! you have not been tricked! In my opinion this movie (while I enjoyed it) was a complete blockbuster disguised as an indie film. I felt tricked. You know I have been a salesman before and I know what it takes to get people to buy something and well i'm greatly disappointed that this company decided to make this look really interesting, small budget film, when in the end all it truly was was a cheesy romantic comedy with a sad twist, but of course a happy ending (because if it didn't have that happy ending everyone would go home and shoot themselves afterwords).

don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the movie I just wish it was marketed to me in a different manner, because I really thought I was going to see a small independent film.

Ok here is the one thing I did like (below). I wish we all could randomly break out in dance sequences in our everyday lives, truly i wish music would just start playing and everyone would do a synchronized dance in the middle of our day.... don't you?

so i'm being stalked by a body builder. He is coming to my work and telling me the most ridiculous things. He said to me, "you need a bigger ego". then he told me that if i don't look good naked then what is the point of working out? I mean this guy is ridiculous. He kept having the receptionist call up to my office today to ask if i could come downstairs. he was intense and I was hoping to never talk to him again, but unfortunately he has my direct office line.

rebok pumps

i have to tell you that i bought a pair of high waisted jeans and now i'm browsing the rebok pumps. if you are wondering what is wrong with me I can't answer that question. but i can say that i'm excited for the 90's to come back in fashion, i'm talking baggy clothes, especially boy cut jeans. I heart them.



Well i wrote 4 songs in the last week and a half. I'm plugging away every night writing music and writing music.... here are some lines from the songs I just wrote.

I had a drunk drunk girl come up to me this weekend and tell me my songs were "from the gut". It cracked me up, cause honestly they aren't that dramatic. I guess i feel that if you can't be honest in music than what are you going to write about... i don't know. But hey life is hard enough, and pretending it's not must be hard to do.

crazy drunks

ok. did i tell you guys about how i was chased by a crazy drunk man a week ago? no?

well I was chased, and he was screaming the F word at me. Ya basically i was minding my own business when I came upon this guy walking toward me. he started yelling and i started to cross the street. As i ran right he ran right and then tried to grab me! so i went left, he went left. Then I was running for my life down broadway.

It was dramatic. luckily he was way too drunk to catch me and of course I'm way too fast (ha ha). I only wish that I was wearing this tee-shirt at that moment, love this...:



I'm telling you what this is the kind of thing that happens to me on a daily basis.

The last few days...

The last few days have been comical and entertaining. Let's start with this story: I was walking innocently down the street, no one was around and it was early in the morning. there were trees and there were streets, that's it. Out of no where, falling from the sky, comes a Blueberry Muffin- and hits me in the head! ha ha ha ha. I just about fell over laughing.

Then I proceeded to purchase this really great tee shirt:

Last night I spent my time at the UMS (underground music showcase), I'll be playing there sunday at 8pm @ the hi-dive so come out! I happen to love this ice cream shop that is on broadway (where the festival is). come to find out they happen to have home made popscles, which happen to be my favorite thing in the world:

two! I am so excited to say we get to do more songs in John Macy's rad studio the 8th of August! we'll be finishing all the songs for our recording! ya.

three. I'm up for some t.v. shows! we'll hopefully be added to a few MTV reality shows in the next few months.

four! I am excited to say that our soul band is going to be performing august 7th!

wow. sorry I haven't written in forever! You know I've had a ton going on, I thought I'd have a chance to catch up in minnesota, but I was wrong!

Well I have to say I've had a crazy week.... I played some shows in minneapolis, had dinner with some priests out there (no i'm not catholic), went to the wedding and well I was extremely tired. and the tiredness caused a fainting/passing out on monday which caused some hospital visits. Which caused me to have an interaction with a doctor that was unpleasant. She was saying the most ridiculous things, seriously, who hires these people?

Well overall it was a good time, i'm just glad to be home!

these guys took me to the university club in saint paul ordered a fancy meal and told me stories about mother teresa. It was entertaining!

all the good news!

Ladies and gents, I have been deathly sick in the last week- but I am finally recovering and want you to know a few things.

One, I'm Leaving for minneapolis this week!

two, we are getting the opportunity to record 3 more songs! ya! and ya! the engineer's wife had a heart attack during our session, which was so horrible for everyone involved. But because of the crazy circumstances (which she is doing well now) we get to go in and do more! i'm thrilled. So it means you are going to have to wait till we get done.

Three, I'm stoked to say I attended the Flight of the conchords concert on Saturday night. I bought a ticket last minute and had a blast!!!! it was so fun.

Four, i'm having cool tee's and stickers made.... anyone have request for special merch? I bought a capo from Trace Bundy the other night and thought about how I definitely need more merch.

Lastly, I found out that some coffee shop in seattle was playing my cd when one of my friends walked in today! Love that
! plus I just love seattle! I HEART YOU!

my soul band

yes it's official, we are starting a soul band. Can I just say that soul music is the missing link between all people. Ha ha ha. Who doesn't love lil michael j and the jackson 5, or marvin gay and al green???? I wish i lived in the motown era. we are going to be amazing just like them:

First things first, I'm excited to say that I've booked new shows in Minneapolis. We'll be there from May 20-25th. If you are in St. Paul I hope you can come out and hang!!

Secondly, I'm glad to say that our Ep is going to be mixed down in LA in the next month or two. We are so excited to share our new music with the world! We have a full band including a bunch of extra instruments for your listening pleasure! Arron Johnson will be working on this for us woo! Also when that happens we'll be out in LA doing a show or two, so keep a look out for that. You can see our calendar of dates on myspace.com/ballandrea.

hello everybody!! here comes summer, and it is so exciting to me. I'm getting to do all kinds of amazing things. I'll be spending some of my time working with kids, releasing our recording, traveling and volunteering... oh ya. Fall will be another adventure in and of itself, hopefully including some touring! Last night I made my first attempt at writing a concert review. I don't know if it will be used or not, but I was extremely excited because it was a privileged to see this band! Angus and Julia Stone are from Australia and they are on tour with Brett Dennen, who by the way is a fantastic performer.
